Neuritis can affect one or more areas of the body. So what are the symptoms of neuritis? What are its different types? Read the article to know more.

Neuritis comes in several different types, and here we will learn about the most important types of nerve inflammation, the symptoms of each type, and the general causes of this type of inflammation.

Neuritis

Types of neuritis

Here are the main types of neuritis and their symptoms:

1- Optic neuritis

In this type of neuritis, the main optic nerve, which serves to transmit visual information from the eye to the brain, is damaged, and this inflammation may appear suddenly as a result of inflammation, infection, or a specific disease.

Symptoms of optic neuritis

These are the main symptoms of optic neuritis that may appear on the patient when infected:

Vision loss in only one eye for a period of 7-10 days.

Disturbed color vision, loss of the ability to distinguish them properly.

Pain in the area around the eye that worsens when moving the eyeball.

Other less common symptoms, such as: irregularity in the reaction of the pupils to light sources, seeing strange light flashes.

2- Vestibular neuritis

In this type of neuritis, the vestibular nerve, which is located inside the ear and is responsible for sending signals related to the body's balance, to the brain is damaged.

Symptoms of vestibular neuritis

These are the main symptoms of vestibular neuritis that may appear on a patient when infected:

Problems and difficulties with the ability to balance.

Nausea and vomiting.

Lightheadedness and dizziness.

Problems with concentration and productivity.

Motion sickness.

3- humeral neuritis

This type of nerve inflammation usually affects the nerves in the shoulder, chest, and arms. And it causes an imbalance in the transmission of nerve signals from the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body, especially in the upper extremities.

Symptoms of brachial neuritis

These are the main symptoms of brachial neuritis that may appear on a patient when infected:

Sharp pain in the upper arms or shoulder.

Pain that affects only one side of the body.

A feeling of numbness and tingling in the shoulder or arm area.

Inability to control the muscles in the shoulder area and in the arms.

Pain in the shoulder and arm area may turn into paralysis or complete paralysis in these areas within a few hours.

4- Cranial neuritis

This type of neuritis usually affects the nerves that connect between the brain and the face in all its parts. Examples include the following diseases: paralysis of the third nerve, paralysis of the sixth nerve, paralysis of the fourth nerve.

Symptoms of cranial neuritis

As mentioned, this type of nerve inflammation may appear in the form of several different diseases affecting the nerves of the face, head and even eyes, so the symptoms of neuritis here differ from one case to another.

But in general, these are the most important possible symptoms:

Feeling of numbness and numbness in the face.

Pain.

A feeling of immediate discomfort when touching the skin of the face.

Vision problems and changes.

General weakness or paralysis of the muscles.

Causes of nerve inflammation

There are many factors and diseases that may cause nerve inflammation, especially the following:

Exposure to an accident, injury, or irritating factor, such as undergoing radiotherapy for cancer patients.

Excessive alcohol or drug use.

Benign or malignant tumors that may compress nerves, causing inflammation.

Certain types of infections or infections, such as: Lyme disease, Bell's palsy, and leprosy.
